TESTIMONIALS

July 7, 2011

I have been working with Dr. Markus to get away from a 15 year opiate addiction (narcotic pain killers). It all started when I was a teenager and fractured both of my arms. I was prescribed a lot of narcotics to kill the pain. I grew to love the feeling that I got from them. They were very easy to get my hands on from different doctors and on the streets. After many years of abusing the pain medications, I had heard of a medication called Suboxone. I did some research on the drug and came across Dr. Markus. Needless to say, I was very skeptical about Suboxone and if it would really work for me and my very complicated past with opiates. I have been taking Suboxone now for about a year and a half. I have not taken any opiates since the first day I took Suboxone. Anybody who has this addiction knows how sick you will get if you don't take any opiates after taking them on a daily basis. So you could imagine how nice it was to not take any opiates and not get any withdrawal symptoms. I honestly felt like an angry monkey had been taken off my back. Working with Dr. Markus and with the help of Suboxone I really feel like I have kicked a very long term addiction, and have been given another chance! What really helped me was that Dr. Markus is not your everyday Doctor who writes you a script and gets you to leave. He took the time to get to know me and help me work on any other problems I was dealing with, like health issues, addiction issues or problems going on in my life. I have seen my fair share of doctors in my life but Dr. Markus and his staff are the most understanding, down to earth people I have ever met in a doctors office and I don’t ever plan on changing doctors again! I would recommend Dr. Markus and the program him and his staff at Creekside have put together to anyone who is looking for a way out of the abuse cycle of opiates!

Thank you!

After years of abusing heroin I realized I needed help after spending the better part of two years in rehab. I was homeless in Long Beach, CA at the time, when a friend suggested I try Suboxone. After a few days of taking Suboxone my cravings weren't gone, but were manageable. I knew it wasn't a final solution, but for the time being it was the best option for me. When I moved back to Washington I decided that I wanted to continue Suboxone maintenance for the time being. I knew someone who had visited Dr. Markus in the past and spoke highly of him. I decided to schedule an appointment with Dr. Markus and see how it went. I'd seen quite a few Doctors, therapists, and counselors in the past with not much luck, so I was a bit skeptical that Dr. Markus could help me. My first visit with Dr. Markus was exceptional. Instead of asking me the usual questions for five minutes and writing me a prescription he took the time to get to know me and determine the best course of action. I've now been seeing Dr. Markus for a little over a year, and am working my way off Suboxone, still happily sober. Compared to others I've seen Dr. Markus is the most professional and most genuine in what he does. I know that it really does matter to him that I stay sober. If anyone is considering Suboxone treatment, and is serious about getting clean, I cannot say enough about Dr. Markus. If you stick to the plan and are honest, you can be sober.

Psychologically and emotionally spent, I struggled with narcotic addiction for over a decade before meeting with Dr. Stephen Markus. My attempts at sobriety were earnest yet futile, as my successful stretches of clean time were inadvertently followed by relapse and regression. Progressively getting sicker with each passing day, active addiction is capable of darkening even the very brightest of lives. Feelings of failure, hopelessness, desolation and despair cloud the mind and highjack the perspective, leaving the addict alone, isolated and detached from family and friends. Dr. Markus and the staff at Creekside Medicine offered illumination through the path of recovery, helping me break the cycle of active addiction, and gave me the tools to finally put the reality and fear of relapse behind me. Suboxone is merely the foundation on which our recovery is set. Dr. Markus genuinely cares about his patients and offers wisdom and guidance that will continue to help me for the rest of my life. Realizing my own potential didn't happen because I undertook Suboxone treatment, it happened because he was the doctor that carried me through it. It's an impossibility to completely define how different my life is today compared to then, when I first sat down inside his office but I cannot recommend him highly enough. Both to the patient seeking help combating substance abuse, and the families of the loved ones suffering through its horrible realities.
